Whither the Stoners? Plus some Snow and NPSL news January 2, 2010

The couple moments before Laverne's amateur rhinoplasty

So, I was perusing the new and improved NPSL website this morning. It kind of reminds me of when Lavern and Shirley moved to California; a different setting but the same old jokes. I have to admit that it is much more well-organized, but a lot of the information is still sadly out-of-date. Of the 12 NE division teams listed on the website, I could only verify that 5 were actually playing in the division for 2010, several had no website or a dead link listed, and Boston Aztecs have changed their name to New England Aztec.

A case in point: the Pennsylvania Stoners. Click on the Team Web Site…no really, click on it, and you’ll see that pennstoners.org now points to fclehigh.com.

Once I reached fclehigh.com, the only place I saw the Stoners mentioned were in a couple of spots in the news section, oddly, all in deference to the FC Lehigh moniker, as if the Stoners were always under the overarching banner of FC Lehigh. There is no mention of whether the team will play in 2010, and if that’s not strange enough for you, the team history was written in 2007, a year before the Stoners began play. I’ve tried contacting a few people about this but to no avail; given that the season starts in roughly 5 months, it’s a good bet that there will be no Stoners team for 2010, and that the Stoners name is probably dead at this point. Of course this is all based upon 5 minutes of research and virtually no circumstantial evidence.

If someone has more information about the fate of the Stoners, please leave a comment or email me.

The Pocono Snow are under new management. GM Pat Mullaly has been replaced by someone named Derek Arneaud, and yours truly (who designed the team crest and created/updated the current Snow site in 2009) has been politely asked to turn over the website reigns to someone with more direct contact to the day-to-day operations of the team. Best of luck to the Snow in 2010, it was fun working with youse people.

As for me, I am currently working toward my PhD in Instructional Technology @ Lehigh University, so my time is very limited. Now that I am no longer involved in any significant way with any NPSL sides, it’s doubtful I will be following the league this coming season, but I will be updating with other things as they pop in and out of my brain.

Here’s to a great 2010.

Good deal for the Stoners. It’s about time that they got someone besides Wolfgang who knows something about soccer. It can only help. Their attendance went down, the team slid and they played at a place meant for track, not soccer.

Keem just emailed and stated that he is no longer the Commish of the NorthEast Conference but he is working only on new membership.
