The new Stoners head coach was unveiled recently, as Todd Ervin has agreed to terms to coach the squad. Todd’s first official duty as head coach was conducting the first round of tryouts at Iron Lakes Sports Club. Sam “Bish” Bishop will act as an assistant.

Big Todd comes to the Stoners with a wealth of soccer experience locally and regionally, playing for Muhlenberg College and, as a four-year starter and NSCAA Regional All-American under former original Stoner Jeff Tipping. After his college days, Ervin played professionally for the South Jersey Barons of the USL’s Second Division from 1998-2000. Ervin continues to play locally for the legendary Allentown Sports Club.

According to the official Stoners press release, his first coaching efforts were made as a youth coach at the Lower Macungie Youth Association. An NSCAA-Licensed coach, Ervin was Assistant Men’s Coach at Moravian College, where he served under one of the Lehigh Valley’s finest coaches, Eric Lambinus. After three years there, he left to assume the position of Head Soccer Coach at Cedar Crest College.

We were lucky enough to be invited to the Dec. 29 tryout, and noticed two things: 1) Todd has a loud voice and took charge of the tryouts right away; and 2) he was probably the tallest guy there, so nobody gave him trouble. Everything you could ask for in a head coach.

I wish good luck to both coaches in this new project for the ABE area. I hope that their experience and enthusiasm will bring the game of soccer to a new level in the Valley.
