2008 Pennsylvania Stoners

NPSL and MSSL Team Tryouts

Follow the Dream and Make the Team!

The Team

The Pennsylvania Stoners are the Lehigh Valley’s Minor League Soccer Team. They have joined the National Premier Soccer League and will play in the Northeast Division, along with 2007 NPSL Finalist Buffalo Queen City FC (losers to the San Diego Fusion). The regular season runs from May 18 to July 13. Regional playoffs will be held July 20, if we qualify. National finals will be held July 27, provided we qualify from regional playoffs.

The idea

We want to get the very best local and regional players to play for the Pennsylvania Stoners. To have as many quality players as possible on the eventual first team and reserves, we need to hold open tryouts. These tryouts will be for both the NPSL Pennsylvania Stoners and the MSSL Stoners Futures. The Stoners Futures will play a full summer schedule, as well as occasionally training with the first team. The 2005 and 2007 versions of the Futures won the MSSL Cup.

The plan

In order to meet NCAA requirements, Division 1 Players can only play when school is not in session. Division II, Division III and players who have exhausted their eligibility can play as much as they like. Therefore, our first set of tryouts should be help over the Christmas season. We will announce additional indoors tryouts and finish with tryouts during spring breaks and in the beginning of May.

As Iron Lakes Sports Club is the only facility capable of holding such an event, the first set of tryouts will be held:

Saturday, December 29 at 8 PM

Sunday, December 30 at 6 PM

Monday, December 31 at Noon

It costs $30 to try out for the Stoners. This includes time and space for the tryouts at Iron Lakes and a tryout T-shirt. The cost covers tryouts as long as you are in the running to make the team. Everyone will have at least three tryout dates.

The players surviving the first round will be announced January 4, 2008. Further tryouts will be held during Easter and Spring Breaks, as necessary. This schedule will be announced shortly.

Training for the Stoners and Futures will begin May 1. The Stoners kick off their regular season on May18 at home against Maryland United. The MSSL begins play the first weekend after Memorial Day.
